So who am I?

Hello, I’m Pete Alexander Bell – better known as Pix Pete. As a landscape photographer based in the North East of England, my passion for capturing the untamed beauty of our region’s landscapes is woven into my daily life. Growing up in Sunderland, with the North Sea right on my doorstep, I developed a lifelong connection to the beaches, cliffs, and coastlines that make this part of the country so special.

The North East has so much to offer for those willing to explore it, and I’m proud to say I’ve been captivated by its beauty all my life. From the beaches of Northumberland, where the golden sands meet striking castles, to the tranquil rivers and rolling hills of Durham and the breathtaking, open countryside of the North Pennines, I’ve made it my mission to share the unique character of this landscape with others. For me, every day spent behind the camera is an opportunity to witness something new, whether it’s the warm hues of an autumn morning or the dramatic contrast of storm clouds over the countryside.

I strive to convey not just the visual beauty of these scenes and the feeling of being there, but to turn them into works of art to be admired for generations to come.

My love of the night sky…

As much as I’m drawn to capturing classic landscapes, I find myself equally captivated by the night sky. My journey into astrophotography has added an extra layer to my love of photography, one that goes beyond the earthly and taps into the mysteries above. There is something truly mesmerizing about photographing the moon as it casts its cool glow over familiar places or framing the Milky Way as it stretches across the sky in an unbroken band of stars. The North East, with its quiet coastal spots and remote countryside, also provides the perfect canvas for these celestial scenes having some of the darkest and least light polluted areas in the whole of Europe!

I’ve spent countless nights in awe of the vastness above, waiting for the perfect alignment of stars and light.

Nothing quite compares to the wonder of capturing the Northern Lights. Although rare at this latitude, the aurora’s appearance over the North East is unforgettable – a dance of colours that adds a surreal quality to our already beautiful landscape. Whether it’s a faint green shimmer or a full-blown display of pink and purple hues, the aurora offers those of us who chase it a glimpse of something extraordinary and ephemeral. My hope with each of these shots is to share a sense of the awe I feel with others who may not be fortunate enough to see it for themselves.

Thank you for visiting my website and taking an interest in my work. If my photos inspire you to explore the natural beauty of the North East or take a moment to look up at the night sky, then I feel I’ve achieved something meaningful.

Photography is my passion, my escape, my fulfilment. For that reason you will find me forever chasing the sun, moon and stars around the North East of England.
